Building Code Update

Keeping up with changes in the Building Code can be challenging. In 2016, the New York State Uniform Code (NYSUC) was adopted. This was a major change from the previous Code. The 2016 NYSUC included by reference the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) and the 2016 Uniform Code Supplement (UCS) (as well as the other I-Codes). 2017 has brought us another Code change. In July, the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council adopted and published a new 2017 Uniform Code Supplement (2017 UCS) to completely replace the 2016 UCS. The effective date of the 2017 UCS was October 31, 2017.  Projects submitted for building permits must now comply with the 2017 NYSUC, which includes the 2015 I-Codes and the 2017 UCS. In addition, all references in the 2016 Energy Code Supplement (ECS) to the 2016 UCS shall be interpreted to be a reference to the 2017 UCS.

The 2017 UCS can be found using this link: 2017 Uniform Code Supplement.
