Kent's Tavern
Calais, VT

Kent's Tavern was built by Abdiel Kent between 1833 and 1837 and served as the Kent family home and a stagecoach stop on the road from Montpelier, Vermont, to Canada. We developed a masonry restoration and structural stabilization plan for the three-part project which included a brick tavern, a wood-framed office, and a store. The tavern restoration included partially removing brick and rebuilding it in its original location, while matching the mortar to the original specifications.

Let us provide the benefit of our extensive experience in a timeframe that meets your needs.

A subsequent phase of the restoration involved framing repairs to the adjoining office and store. The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation named the Kent Tavern a historical landmark in 1997. The tavern will be used as a museum. The project won a Silver Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York.
