Hayden Leads Project Tour
Caleb Hayden, PE, led a project tour of the SUNY Polytechnic Campus Center Renovation for the SUNY Polytechnic American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Section.
Caleb is a Director for the Syracuse ASCE chapter. Ryan Biggs Clark Davis provided the structural engineering design services for the renovations and additions to the 68,000-square-foot, steel-framed building, originally built in 1985. The existing two-story building had served as the campus center for decades, and the renovation aimed to modernize and expand its functionality. Notable elements of the project included infilling the existing Natatorium with framing and a monumental stair, transforming the second floor into classroom spaces with a view of the new pool on the first floor. The shallow end of the original pool was converted into a large, tiered seating classroom. Additionally, a cantilevered balcony was added overlooking the lobby, and the existing racquetball courts were converted into office space with a second-story framing. A 1,000-square-foot, one-story mechanical services addition was constructed on the west side of the building. The renovation successfully expanded the center, blending classroom and office spaces. The Architect was Ashley McGraw.
