Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis provided the structural design of this 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art science building. The Science Center is an integral part of the Capital Region community as it provides laboratories and classrooms equipped with the latest technologies that will be used to train the workforce of the future. The Science Center will help to further define HVCC as one of the most outstanding and competitive community colleges in the nation.

The approximate cost of construction was $47 million.

Structurally Sound

The three-story, steel-framed building is founded on grade beams with drilled concrete piers. Drilled piers are socketed into bedrock. Lateral bracing provided by braced frames.

The project was awarded Structural Engineering Project of the Year by the Mohawk Hudson Chapter of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE and Engineering Project of the Year by the Capital District Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers.

Class-Leading Facilities

The new science center houses 25 laboratories for the study of biology, chemistry, physics, biotechnology, bio-manufacturing, earth science, and forensics. It holds 11 classrooms, 45 faculty and staff offices, a conference space, a science study center, and several student gathering spaces.
