12th Annual SEI Structures Day

Meera Ramesh, PhD., is speaking at the Mohawk-Hudson Chapter of the Structural Engineering Institute’s 12th Annual Structures Day.

SEI is a branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is a vibrant community of more than 20,000 members. Their mission is to advance and serve the structural engineering profession and the organization seeks to unite current and future structural engineers to build support and encourage growth and development within the local community.

Meera’s presentation is titled “Evaluation and Design of Mortars for Restoration Projects.” A summary of her presentation is as follows: Current standards permit the use of compressive strength as a metric for the performance of mortars. But, stronger is not always better, and often ends up being harmful instead. Meera is a Restoration Engineer at Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis and provides structural engineering analysis and design support of many of the firm’s historic preservation and façade restoration projects.

Several Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis Structural Engineers are attending the program today which consists of four professional development sessions covering a range of structural engineering topics. Ryan Biggs Clark Davis sponsored the event by providing a copy of “ASCE 7-22:  Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings as Other Structures” to be raffled off at the event.

Chris Lesher, P.E., a Senior Associate at Ryan Biggs Clark Davis, is Treasurer of SEI Mohawk-Hudson.
