NYS Capitol Great Western Staircase
A portrait of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a feminist icon and Supreme Court Justice, will be carved in stone and installed in the New York State Capitol’s Great Western Staircase (also known as the Million Dollar Staircase) in Albany.
Built between 1884 and 1898 of Corsehill sandstone, the staircase spans four floors and includes 444 steps. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s carving will join several other historically significant women and men that are memorialized on the walls of the grand staircase. Ryan Biggs Clark Davis is on the project design team and will specify the requirements for scaffolding access, removal of existing stone, and installation of the new portrait stone. The project is being administered by the New York State Office of General Services. Click the link below to learn more!
