RBCD Rewind: Lake George Sun Deck
The weather is getting warmer, and we’re looking forward to taking advantage of our beautiful surroundings and amazing recreation here in Upstate New York.
We’re incredibly lucky that both of our offices have picturesque lakes nearby. In the mid to late 1980s, Ryan Biggs Clark Davis worked in the Village of Lake George home of the “Queen of American Lakes” on the structural design of a waterfront entry. To attract tourists, the Village developed a master plan for the lakefront which included a walkway, park, and sun deck. The guiding concepts of these improvements was to provide tourists access to the lake and recreation facilities, while beautifying the surrounding deteriorated area. The project was designed in three phases between 1984-1988. The sun deck was constructed of materials native to the area and the deck blends with the adjacent construction. Next a steel sheet pile bulkhead walkway was completed at the southern end of the lake. It provided a pleasant walk along the lake’s edge with seating and fishing areas. The last phase turned a parking lot into an interpretive park located to public restrooms, restaurants, and a boating area.
