Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis provided the structural engineering design for the new 10,500-square-foot Alumni & Visitors Center.
The steel-framed structure utilizes braced frames for lateral stability, and long-span roof joists above the multi-purpose room were design delegated and support a 3,000-pound rooftop unit.
One of the focal points of the entryway is a glulam stair to the second floor. The glulam stringer terminates into a glulam railing support that continues around the double height space, making the glulam stringer appear to be continuous.
The building also features a 22-foot-high ceramic tile fireplace.
The new structure serves as a west-side entry for the campus and a gathering spot for students and alumni.
The building includes spaces for public gatherings, as well as a large multi-purpose room, conference rooms, and offices for the Alumni Affairs department.
