The Yale Health Center provides medical services to students, faculty, and staff. The building consists of 140,000 square feet with approximately 850 rooms to house 16 clinical departments, an inpatient facility with 13 beds, 7 administrative departments, a pharmacy, and campus meeting facilities. The four-story building with a brick and glass exterior utilizes nontraditional shapes to maximize energy efficiency and capture natural light. The University has a long tradition of masonry structures throughout the campus.
As the specialty façade engineer for the building, Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis was responsible for the structural design and detailing of a backup wall system, hung supports, and veneer design and anchorage system. The brick veneer warps and curves and leans as much as 15 degrees from vertical to achieve the architectural concept. The total construction cost was $140 million.
