Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis provided structural engineering for the rehabilitation of the Moffett Center. Alterations were made to the eastern portion of the building, including adaptive reuse of a former natatorium into academic and office space. A steel-framed concrete slab was placed over an existing swimming pool, and a second-floor mezzanine was constructed to house a mechanical room. The existing concrete bleachers in the pool area were demolished, and the space formerly occupied by the pool deck and bleachers was converted to offices and a museum. The existing locker rooms were also converted to programmable spaces. The project included several steel rooftop dunnage frames as well as a distinctive steel-framed glass canopy on the east face. We also provided Phase II services which included design for the mezzanine space in the existing gym with roof monitor and complete gut rehabilitation of the rest of the building including mechanical upgrades. The projects were administered by the State University Construction fund (SUCF).
